AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS — The Sustainable Aviation Futures Congress 2025, billed as the world’s largest event for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and aviation decarbonization, will take place May 6–8 at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam’s city center. Expecting over 1,000 attendees from airlines, fuel producers, policymakers, and technology specialists, the congress aims to drive strategies for scaling SAF production and meeting ReFuelEU Aviation mandates, which include a 1.2% eFuel target by 2030.
The event, supported by industry leaders like ASAPA, BloombergNEF, and SkyTeam, will feature 200 speakers across four streams: SAF technologies and feedstocks, supply chains and logistics, corporate sustainability, and decarbonization technologies. Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM and Co-Chair of the Sky Power Initiative, will discuss Project SkyPower’s efforts to unite Europe’s aviation and energy sectors for e-SAF projects targeting final investment decisions (FID) in 2025. Marylin Bastin, Head of Aviation Sustainability at Eurocontrol, will join a fireside chat on SAF’s role in global decarbonization, exploring trade corridors and nature-positive strategies.
A key session, the Presidential Debate on May 8, will question the achievability of aviation’s 2050 sustainability targets, with contributions from Guillermo Felipe Rebollo de Gray of the European Commission’s DG MOVE and Morten Petersen of Destination 2050. The debate will assess whether current progress, including SAF adoption, can meet long-term goals or if policy and production must accelerate. Other panels will tackle feedstock availability under RED III, with Mohammad Reza Ghaani of Trinity College Dublin evaluating Annex IX-compliant feedstocks, and global SAF compliance, featuring Cathay Pacific’s Hamza Mazloum.
“How are the industry leaders across Europe working together to meet Europe’s 1.2% eFuel production mandate by 2030?” — Session description featuring Marjan Rintel, CEO, KLM
The congress emphasizes networking, offering over 20 hours of structured opportunities, including 30 dedicated 1-2-1 meeting booths, a premium networking dinner on May 6, and a new SAF networking app. The expanded exhibition space, backed by sponsors like SmartEnergy, Gevo, and OMV, will showcase innovations. With representation from over 60 countries, the event builds on its 2024 success, where 700+ stakeholders connected, by doubling networking areas and increasing attendees by 30%.
Sessions will dive into technical and regulatory challenges, such as contrail mitigation, led by Breakthrough Energy’s Matteo Mirolo, and airport fuel infrastructure, with Schiphol Airport’s Fokko Kroesen. Discussions on book-and-claim systems, low-carbon aviation fuel (LCAF), and AI-driven efficiencies reflect the industry’s push for scalable solutions. As SAF projects move from front-end engineering design (FEED) to FID, the congress will provide clarity on offtake agreements, workforce development, and financing, positioning itself as the go-to platform for the global SAF community.
