BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — As the aviation sector races to meet net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Summit 2025, set for 24–25 June in Brussels, emerges as a pivotal forum for aligning global stakeholders. Organized by Biofuels International, the event will convene airlines, fuel producers, airports, policymakers, and technology innovators to tackle the regulatory, economic, and technical complexities of scaling SAF to meet soaring demand.
With the SAF market projected to hit €50 billion by 2030 and exceed €500 billion by 2050, the summit arrives at a critical juncture. IATA member airlines have pledged net-zero emissions, while governments, including the U.S., are setting ambitious production targets. Europe’s ReFuelEU initiative is reshaping the policy landscape, mandating SAF blends and incentivizing investment. Yet, challenges persist: feedstock availability, production costs, and refinery scalability remain hurdles to mainstream adoption.
The summit’s agenda is designed to address these pain points. Alexis Chausteur, Policy Analyst at the European Commission, will open the event, outlining how ReFuelEU aligns with EU climate goals and drives large-scale SAF deployment. “ReFuelEU is not just a mandate; it’s a framework to catalyze investment and innovation across the value chain,” Chausteur said in a pre-summit briefing, emphasizing the policy’s role in balancing ambition with feasibility.

Sophia Haywood, Director of EU & UK Government Affairs at Lanzajet, will present a case study on the world’s first commercial-scale Ethanol-to-Jet facility in the U.S. Her session will explore how this breakthrough can inform European SAF strategies, particularly in leveraging existing ethanol infrastructure. Meanwhile, Aaron Robinson, Vice President of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at International Airlines Group (IAG), will detail IAG’s global sourcing and partnership model, which aims to secure scalable SAF supplies across the U.S. and Europe.
Innovation in feedstocks will also take center stage. James Hygate, CEO of Firefly Green Fuels, will showcase biosolids as a novel, sustainable SAF feedstock. “Biosolids offer a low-carbon, scalable pathway that sidesteps competition with food crops,” Hygate noted, highlighting his company’s efforts to commercialize this unconventional resource. Additional speakers from S&P Global, Hinicio, and Corteva Agriscience will dive into supply-demand dynamics, refinery models, and pricing frameworks.
The summit’s co-location with the Biofuels International Conference & Expo and the International Biogas Congress amplifies its impact, creating a unique nexus for bioeconomy stakeholders. Attendees will gain complimentary access to these events, fostering cross-sector collaboration.
As public pressure and regulatory mandates intensify, the SAF Summit 2025 offers a critical platform to translate ambition into action, ensuring sustainable aviation fuels become a cornerstone of decarbonized flight.
