Ånge, Sweden—Norsk e-Fuel has announced a new collaboration with Prime Capital and RES to establish a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Sweden. The project, named “Project Alby,” will be developed in Ånge, about 370 kilometers north of Stockholm, and is expected to produce at least 80,000 tons of e-Fuel annually.
The partnership brings together Norsk e-Fuel’s expertise in synthetic SAF development, Prime Capital’s renewable energy infrastructure investment, and RES’ extensive experience in renewable project development. “We are excited to join forces with Norsk e-Fuel on this transformative project,” said Jens Walzner, Managing Director of Prime Capital. “This collaboration is a key step in reducing aviation emissions and accelerating Sweden’s transition to a more sustainable future.”
The plant will utilize Power-to-Liquid technology, where water is converted into hydrogen and combined with captured CO₂ to produce e-Kerosene. This synthetic fuel provides an alternative to fossil-based aviation fuel and aligns with the European Union’s ReFuelEU Aviation regulations. The 14-hectare Ånge site benefits from Sweden’s competitive electricity prices due to its strong renewable energy infrastructure.
“This project is a milestone for Norsk e-Fuel as we expand into Sweden and continue to lead the charge in providing fossil-free fuels for the aviation industry,” said Karl Hauptmeier, CEO of Norsk e-Fuel. “Project Alby exemplifies our commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and highlights the importance of teamwork in achieving success.”
The Ånge region is poised to become one of Europe’s leading hubs for green hydrogen-driven industrial projects, reinforcing the strategic importance of the investment. “Norsk e-Fuel joining the Alby project is fantastic news,” said Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES in the Nordics. “Their expertise in e-SAF production, combined with Prime Capital’s strategic capabilities and RES’ 40+ years of renewable energy experience, provides a strong foundation for the next development phase.”
