Singapore – Emirates has initiated the use of Neste’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its flights departing from Singapore Changi Airport. This milestone makes Emirates the first international visiting carrier to utilize SAF supplied from Neste’s Singapore refinery at Changi Airport. Over the past few weeks, more than 2,600 tons (3.3 million liters) of blended SAF have been integrated into the airport’s fueling system to meet Emirates’ operational needs.
This supply is part of a partnership announced in October 2023 between Emirates and Neste. Earlier this year, Neste supplied over 6,000 tons of blended SAF to Emirates at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, further cementing their collaboration.
“Emirates’ investment into Neste-produced SAF in Singapore marks the first step forward in our SAF adoption in Asia, a region that is primed to become a leading supplier of SAF, which continues to be in short supply. While the activation of this agreement marks a milestone in our SAF journey in a new region, there’s still a lot of work to do. And as we procure SAF for the short term, we’ve got our sights set on longer-term agreements to help scale up a steady supply of SAF for our operations,” said Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer at Emirates.

Alexander Kueper, Vice President of the Renewable Aviation Business at Neste, expressed enthusiasm about the cooperation: “We are excited Emirates has started using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Changi Airport as the newest step in our cooperation. It makes Emirates the first international visiting carrier using SAF at the airport produced at our Singapore refinery and supplied into the airport via our integrated supply chain. We are looking forward to continuing to work together on scaling up the supply of SAF for Emirates’ operations.”
The use of SAF is a critical component in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector. Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the fuel’s life cycle compared to conventional jet fuel. This SAF is made from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste, and can be seamlessly integrated with existing aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure.
