Saint Paul, MN — DG Fuels, a U.S.-based leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), announced plans to construct a $5 billion facility in Moorhead, Minnesota, set to produce 193 million gallons of SAF per year once operational in 2030. In collaboration with the Minnesota EDC and the Minnesota SAF Hub, DG Fuels aims to provide a major boost to Minnesota’s sustainable energy landscape, creating 650 jobs and generating substantial economic value for the state.
The new facility, designed to convert cellulosic biomass from agricultural by-products like corn stover and timber waste, promises near-zero CO2 lifecycle emissions. The process, which also incorporates clean hydrogen, ensures minimal environmental impact while delivering high-value fuel that meets ASTM standards.
“DG Fuels’ baseline process differs from other systems by having little or no environmental emissions,” stated Michael C. Darcy, CEO of DG Fuels. “At the same time, it provides significant economic value to the agricultural communities and farmers that we partner with.

Clay County’s rich resources of farmland and timber make it an ideal site, enabling local farmers to benefit from additional income generated by converting low-value waste into SAF. As part of its investment in the community, DG Fuels has committed to a multi-million-dollar community benefits package that will enhance local infrastructure and quality of life. “Adding value to our region’s agricultural economy is a top priority and fits perfectly with Moorhead’s development strategy,” commented Mayor Shelly Carlson.
Scheduled to be completed over the next four years, the DG Fuels facility is projected to contribute over $50 billion in economic impact across Minnesota in the coming decades, according to Darcy. This project aligns with the Minnesota SAF Hub’s mission to pioneer an industrial-scale SAF economy within the state. Peter Frosch, President and CEO of the GREATER MSP Partnership, shared that “our initial milestone is to deliver 100 million gallons of SAF to MSP International Airport by 2030. The DG Fuels project announced today would produce nearly double that amount.”
“GREATER MSP is excited to work with DG Fuels to deliver on this historic investment in Minnesota.” – Frosch
“GREATER MSP is excited to work with DG Fuels to deliver on this historic investment in Minnesota,” added Frosch. “This project not only creates hundreds of jobs and billions in economic activity but also advances a crucial climate solution.” As the facility progresses, DG Fuels’ investment marks a significant step forward in meeting both state and national goals for sustainable aviation.
