Bentley Motors has announced that all customer car airfreight shipments will now be powered by 100% certified sustainable aviation fuel, effective immediately — making the Volkswagen-owned luxury automaker one of the first in its segment to fully commit to SAF across its air logistics operations.
The move forms part of Bentley’s Beyond100+ sustainability strategy, which sets an ambition for the company to be end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030 and to transition its entire model range to battery electric vehicles. Alongside the SAF commitment, Bentley has transitioned all in-house logistics vehicles at its Crewe factory to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), and runs all in-house operations on renewable fuels or green electricity.
“This initiative forms part of Bentley’s broader programme to reduce operational and value chain emissions in line with our long term Net Zero ambition,” said Aimee Kelly, Head of Sustainability at Bentley Motors. “By integrating SAF into our logistics operations in this transparent and verifiable way, we’re strengthening the foundations needed to deliver our long term climate goals.”
“SAF can deliver significant, independently verified reductions in life cycle CO2e emissions compared with conventional jet fuel — making it a meaningful lever within our wider decarbonisation strategy.” — Aimee Kelly, Head of Sustainability, Bentley Motors
Bentley uses airfreight only when customers specifically request it or when time-critical market requirements make it necessary. The adoption of certified SAF for these shipments represents a meaningful reduction in the environmental footprint of its most emissions-intensive logistics mode.
Kelly noted that SAF delivers independently verified reductions in life cycle CO2e emissions compared with conventional jet fuel. Bentley added that it is exploring extending SAF to additional logistics routes where airfreight may be required in the future.
The announcement signals that SAF’s addressable market extends well beyond airlines and cargo carriers — to luxury goods manufacturers managing premium global supply chains.
