Aviator Airport Alliance, the largest independent ground handling provider in the Nordic region and a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, reduced its business travel emissions by approximately 50% in 2025 after joining Swedavia’s annual SAF procurement initiative — a programme that pools SAF purchases across multiple organisations through a competitive auction.
The result is notable because it was achieved through lifecycle emissions reduction, not carbon offsetting. SAF can reduce lifecycle CO2e emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel while using existing aircraft and infrastructure. By purchasing SAF through Swedavia’s auction, Aviator Sweden was able to allocate those reductions against its business travel footprint, cutting it roughly in half.
“Investing in SAF is a concrete way for us to contribute to the development of more sustainable aviation — something we see as essential for the future of transportation.”
“As part of our continued climate efforts, we at Aviator Sweden have invested in sustainable aviation fuel through Swedavia’s recently completed SAF auction,” said Jonas Brundin, Managing Director of Aviator Sweden.
The SAF commitment is part of a broader emissions programme at Aviator Sweden. From 1 December 2025, the company’s own ground handling operations became fully fossil-free — meaning the SAF investment addresses travel emissions beyond what has already been eliminated from direct operations. The company’s stated target is carbon-neutral ground handling across the business by 2030.
Swedavia, which manages ten Swedish airports, has run a SAF procurement programme since 2016, initially for its own business travel and later opened to other organisations. Aviator’s participation signals growing uptake of the model among airport services companies — a sector that has traditionally been slower to engage with SAF than airlines or fuel suppliers.
