Singapore — The Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) launched today in Singapore with a mission to advance the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) across Asia. Led by CEO Fabrice Espinosa, ASAFA aims to make Asia a leading region in SAF adoption by establishing a collaborative ecosystem that brings together feedstock providers, biofuel producers, airlines, investors, and policymakers. Pioneer members include Korean Air, 1PointFive, DHL Group, Bureau Veritas, and Quantum Commodity Intelligence.
“We are placing Asia at the heart of our efforts by driving policies that establish SAF as a viable decarbonization option.” – Fabrice Espinosa
Addressing a crowd of 200 at the event, Espinosa highlighted ASAFA’s goal to resolve market inefficiencies, attract investments, and position Asia at the forefront of SAF-driven decarbonization. “We are placing Asia at the heart of our efforts by driving policies that establish SAF as a viable decarbonization option for the aviation industry,” said Espinosa.
ASAFA’s strategy includes dynamic working groups with industry and government stakeholders to identify market gaps and implement initiatives that will enhance SAF accessibility across Asia, focusing on key regions like Southeast Asia, South Korea, Japan, India, and China. To facilitate knowledge-sharing and community engagement, ASAFA will organize monthly webinars, workshops, and industry white papers.
In partnership with ASTAR, ASAFA will connect members to ASTAR’s Research Institutes to pilot SAF technologies. The MoU includes access to the A*STAR Collaborative Commerce Marketplace, Operation & Technology Road-mapping, and networking initiatives to strengthen Singapore’s aviation innovation ecosystem.
Espinosa, alongside ASAFA founders Gabriel Ho, Dr. Dietmar Posselt, and Teo Hui Ling, emphasized ASAFA’s commitment to raising public awareness on SAF’s impact. The association will implement outreach programs to build community support and understanding of SAF’s role in sustainable air travel.
ASAFA’s launch event underscores its commitment to making SAF a cornerstone of Asia’s aviation industry, setting the stage for a more resilient and sustainable future in air travel across the continent.
